What is AVC

AVC is an antibacterial medication that used to treat yeast infections. It fights bacteria in your body.

It can be either prescription or non-prescription. During the treatment you should avoid wearing tight-fitting, synthetic clothing (e.g., panty hose) that does not allow air circulation. You should wear loose-fitting clothing made of cotton and other natural fibers until the infection is healed. You should avoid getting this medication in your eyes, nose or mouth.


Side effects of AVC

These side effects can be serious so do not continue using this medicine and call your doctor as soon as possible:

  • shortness of breath
  • closing of your throat
  • swelling of your lips, face or tongue
  • hives

Other less serious side effects may include the followings:

  • burning
  • itching
  • irritation of the skin
  • an increased need to urinate


Indication

AVC is used to treat vaginal infections. It is very important to complete the treatment with AVC, even if you begin to feel better, because the symptoms may return.


Precautions

You should not use AVC if you:

  • have had an allergic reaction to it or to any other sulfa-based medicine in the past
  • have a fever, abdominal pain, foul-smelling discharge, diabetes, HIV or AIDS
  • are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or breastfeeding v


Dosage forms

Usual Adult Dose for Vaginal Candidiasis

1 applicatorful or 1 suppository intravaginally once or twice daily for 30 days.
