What is Azor

Azor is a prescription medicine that contains a combination of amlodipine and olmesartan. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker relaxing the muscles of your heart and blood vessels. Olmesartan is a receptor antagonist that keeps blood vessels from narrowing. Azor is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).


Side effects of Azor

Azor may cause some side effects such as:

  • Feeling like you might pass out
  • Swelling in your hands or feet, rapid weight gain
  • Pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest
  • Urinating less than usual or not at all
  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
  • Chest pain or heavy feeling
  • Nausea, sweating, general ill feeling
  • Dizziness, drowsiness
  • Flushing (warmth, redness or tingly feeling)
  • Hair loss
  • Mild skin rash or itching


Indication

Azor is a medication registered to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is a mixture of olmesartan and amlodipine. Azor lowers systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Azor can decrease the risk of developing health problems such as a stroke, heart disease or congestive heart failure.


Precautions

You should stop taking Azor if you have:

  • Allergies to amlodipine or olmesartan
  • Kidney or liver disease
  • Angina (chest pain)
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Had a recent heart attack


Dosage forms

The recommended initial Azor dosing is 5/20 mg once daily. If needed, the dose may be increased every one or two weeks up to 10/40 mg once daily.
