What is Cenestin

Cenestin is a set of synthetic hormones specially estrogen using to cure menopause. During menopause the ovaries stop secreting the female hormone called estrogen which causes hot flashes and makes the vagina absolutely dry. Cenestin as a synthetic hormone supplement provides estrogen to the body artificially as it is no longer synthesized by the ovaries. In the process the patient gets some relief from the menopausal symptoms.


Side effects of Cenestin

Inform your doctor if any of these most common side effects occur:

  • back or breast pain
  • bloating
  • depression
  • diarrhea
  • dizziness
  • flu syndrome
  • hair loss
  • headache
  • increased/decreased interest in sex
  • irregular vaginal bleeding or spotting
  • sleeplessness
  • weight changes

Get emergency medical help immediately if any of these severe side effects become bothersome:

  • severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the
  • chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue)
  • breast lumps
  • changes in vision or speech
  • sudden shortness of breath
  • swelling of the hands or feet
  • weakness or numbness of an arm or leg
  • yellowing of the skin or eyes


  • Indication

    Cenestin is a mixture of estrogen hormones. It works by replacing natural estrogens in a woman who can no longer produce enough estrogen. This medicine is used for treating rheumatoid arthritis and a variety of symptoms due to menopause (hot flashes, vaginal itching, burning, dryness).


    Precautions

    Taking of Cenestin is not recommended if:

    • you are allergic to any ingredient in Cenestin
    • you are pregnant or suspect you may be pregnant
    • you have known, suspected, or a history of breast cancer or other cancers that are estrogen-dependent
    • you have abnormal vaginal bleeding of unknown cause
    • you have impaired liver function or liver disease
    • you have recently (within the last year) had a stroke or heart attack
    • you have blood clots or circulation disorders


    Dosage forms

    Cenestin dosage depends on factors such as :

    • other medical conditions you may have
    • whether you have had a hysterectomy
    • your particular menopause symptoms

    The dosage for women who are taking Cenestin to treat hot flashes is 0.45 mg taken once a day. For women taking this medicine to treat vaginal symptoms the recommended dose is 0.3 mg daily.

    Cenestin Dosing for Menopause is 0.45 mg once daily. If it is necessary, your doctor may increase your dose. For the treatment of vaginal symptoms (such as dryness, itching or burning) the dosage of Cenestin is 0.3 mg daily.
