What is Detrol

Detrol (tolterodine tartrate) is a prescription medication used for the treatment of overactive bladder. Specifically, it is approved to help cure the following overactive bladder symptoms:

  • Frequent urination
  • Sudden, frequent urges to urinate
  • Leaking accidents


Side effects of Detrol

If you have noticed any of these serious side effects, you should inform your doctor immediately:

  • allergic reaction (hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat)
  • chest pain, fast or uneven heart rate
  • confusion, hallucinations
  • urinating less than usual or not at all
  • painful or difficult urination
  • dry mouth, dry eyes
  • blurred vision
  • dizziness, drowsiness
  • stomach pain or upset
  • headache


Indication

Detrol (tolterodine) prevent spasms of the bladder muscles. This medicine treats overactive bladder with symptoms of urinary frequency, urgency and incontinence.


Precautions

Do not take Detrol if your are allergic to tolterodine or if you have:

  • a blockage of the urinary tract (difficulty urinating)
  • a blockage in your stomach or intestines
  • untreated or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma
  • liver disease
  • kidney disease
  • myasthenia gravis
  • a personal or family history of "Long QT syndrome"


Dosage forms

The dose of Detrol depends on a number of factors such as:

  • Other medications you may be taking
  • How you respond to Detrol
  • Other medical conditions you may have

Detrol Dosage for Bladder Problems is 2 mg twice daily. However, your doctor may recommend a lower dose (Detrol 1 mg twice daily) if you experience any of Detrol's side effects.
