What is Diflucan

Diflucan (fluconazole) is an antifungal antibiotic.


Side effects of Diflucan

The possible side effects of this medicine are considered to be the followings:

  • nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice
  • fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms
  • severe blistering, peeling and red skin rash
  • easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness
  • seizure (convulsions)
  • unusual or unpleasant taste in your mouth


Indication

Diflucan is used to prevent infections caused by fungus affecting any part of the body (the mouth, throat, esophagus, lungs, bladder, genital area and the blood).


Precautions

You should not use this medicine if you have:

  • allergic reaction to fluconazole or similar drugs such as clotrimazole (Lotrimin), econazole (Spectazole), ketoconazole (Nizoral), miconazole (Monistat, Oravig), sertaconazole (Ertaczo), sulconazole (Exelderm), terconazole (Terazol), tioconazole (Vagistat-1) or voriconazole (Vfend).
  • liver disease
  • kidney disease
  • a heart rhythm disorder
  • a personal or family history of Long QT syndrome


Dosage forms

Diflucan is available in the following strengths and forms:

  • Diflucan 50 mg tablets
  • Diflucan 100 mg tablets
  • Diflucan 150 mg tablets
  • Diflucan 200 mg tablets
  • Diflucan powder for oral suspension (which is mixed by a pharmacist to a concentration of 10 or 40 mg per ml depending on the strength)
  • Diflucan 2 mg per ml injection

Diflucan Dosing for Vaginal Yeast Infections is a single dose of 150 mg taken by mouth. Unlike most other yeast infection medications Diflucan is not used vaginally. It works through the bloodstream to treat yeast infections.
