What is Florastor

Florastor is a specific form of yeast. It is commonly used to maintain normal bowel function and promote intestinal health. It may work by helping the body maintain normal consistency of bacteria in the intestines.


Side effects of Florastor

It is highly recommended to stop taking this medication and inform your doctor at once if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Less serious side effects may include:

  • constipation;
  • gas;
  • increased thirst.


Indication

Florastor is used for many purposes. The most common uses of saccharomyces boulardii Florastor are to maintain the balance of the intestinal flora and keeping your intestines functioning well. Florastor is also used for promoting intestinal health.


Precautions

You should not use this medication if you:

  • are allergic to yeast;
  • dehydrated;
  • lactose intolerant;
  • have a central IV line (venous catheter).

It is also important to tell your doctor if you are taking an antifungal medication such as:

  • clotrimazole (Mycelex Troche);
  • itraconazole (Sporanox);
  • ketoconazole (Nizoral);
  • nystatin (Mycostatin, Bio-Statin, Nilstat);
  • voriconazole (Vfend).


Dosage forms

Florastor dose for Adults

Take 1 capsule twice a day for 1 week (may increase the dose to a maximum of 6 capsules a day if recommended by a health care professional)

Florastor dose for Childern

Children from 1 year and up should take 1 capsule or sachet twice a day for 1 week (or as recommended by a health care professional)
