What is HMS

HMS is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called corticosteroids. It stops processes in the body that can cause inflammation. Therefore, the swelling and pain of inflammatory conditions is decreased. Medrysone ophthalmic is used for treating eye inflammation due to infections, injury, surgery or other conditions.


Side effects of HMS

HMS usually does not cause any serious side effects. In rare cases, you may have a high pressure inside of the eye, formation of cataracts or perforation of the cornea. You should inform your doctor if any of these side effects occur.

In most cases you may have some burning, stinging, irritation, itching, redness, blurred vision or sensitivity to light.


Indication

HMS is used to treat eye inflammation caused by various conditions such as infections, injury or surgery.


Precautions

You should not use HMS if you have a bacterial, viral or fungal infection in your eye without also receiving proper anti-infective treatment. It is very important to inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or breastfeeding.


Dosage forms

For betamethasone: For eye disorders:

For ophthalmic solution (eye drops) dosage form: Adults and children- 1 or 2 drops in the eye every one or two hours, then space the doses further apart as the eye gets better.

For dexamethasone: For eye disorders:

For ophthalmic ointment dosage form: Adults and children- the ointment in the eye 3 or 4 times a day, then space the doses further apart as the eye gets better.

For ophthalmic solution (eye drops) dosage form: Adults and children- 1 or 2 drops in the eye up to 6 times a day.

For ophthalmic suspension (eye drops) dosage form: Adults and children- 1 or 2 drops in the eye 4-6 times a day.

For fluorometholone: For eye disorders:

For ophthalmic ointment dosage form: Adults and children- the ointment in the eye 1-3 times a day.

For ophthalmic suspension (eye drops) dosage form: Adults and children- 1 or 2 drops in the eye 2-4 times a day.

For hydrocortisone: For eye disorders:

For ophthalmic ointment dosage form: Adults and children- the ointment in the eye 3-4 times a day, then space the doses further apart as the eye gets better.

For medrysone: For eye disorders:

For ophthalmic suspension (eye drops) dosage form: Adults and children- 1 drop in the eye up to every 4 hours.

For prednisolone: For eye disorders:

For ophthalmic solution (eye drops) dosage form: Adults and children- 1 or 2 drops in the eye up to 6 times a day.

For ophthalmic suspension (eye drops) dosage form: Adults and children- 1 or 2 drops in the eye 2-4 times a day.
