What is Januvia

Januvia is an oral diabetes medicine that uses to control blood sugar levels. It works by regulating the levels of insulin which your body produces after eating.


Side effects of Januvia

The most common side effects identified in patients taking Januvia included:

  • allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat
  • pancreatitis
  • nausea and vomiting
  • loss of appetite
  • fast heart rate
  • headache with a severe blistering, peeling and red skin rash
  • diarrhea


Indication

Januvia helps to cure people with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent). Sometimes this medicine is used in combination with other diabetes medications, but is not for treating type 1 diabetes.


Precautions

You should not use this drug if you are allergic to Januvia or if you are in a state of diabetic ketoacidosis.

Tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions:

  • kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis)
  • a history of pancreatitis


Dosage forms

The dose of Januvia depends on a number of factors such as:

  • How well your diabetes is controlled
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may be taking

Januvia Dosage for Type 2 Diabetes is 100 mg once daily. However, because this medication is cleared from the body by the kidneys, people with kidney problems will need lower doses.

It comes in tablet form and should be taken by mouth once a day, with or without food, at the same time each day. If Januvia bothers your stomach try taking it with food.
