What is Lactase

Lactase is an enzyme that is needed for a specific biochemical reaction in the body that splits lactose, a sugar in milk and milk products.


Side effects of Lactase

Lactase may produce some side effects:

  • Rash
  • Hives
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Tightness in the chest
  • Swelling of the mouth, face, lips or tongue


Indication

Lactase is an enzyme that breaks down the milk sugar lactose. People who are intolerant to lactose have problems with digesting of the milk sugar lactose.


Precautions

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding you should stop using this medication.


Dosage forms

The recommended dose of lactase is 6000-9000 IU, tablets chewed and swallowed at the start of a meal that contains lactose. 2000 IU of the solution added to 500 ml of milk immediately before drinking.
