Vitamins are natural substances that necessary for our body’s growth, development and functioning normally. You can get vitamins through food rich in them or through a well-balanced diet. However, pregnant women and children need more vitamins than usual. If you have certain illnesses, your body either cannot get or cannot efficiently use all of the vitamins it needs.
Multivitamins are effective for patients who have vitamins deficiency who cannot eat enough food to obtain the required vitamins or who cannot receive the full benefit of the vitamins contained in the food they eat.
Side effects of Multivitamins
Multivitamins may cause the following side effects:
- upset stomach
- unpleasant taste
Indication
Multivitamins are available in regular tablets, chewable tablets, capsules and oral liquid, taken once a day. Multivitamins are used to treat vitamins deficiency.
Precautions
You should tell your doctor before taking multivitamins if you:
- Have an allergy to multivitamins or any other drugs
- Are taking any other prescription and non-prescription medications, especially anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin) and any other vitamins. Multivitamins are available in high-dose formulations (therapeutic multivitamins) and in combination with iron, calcium and minerals.
- Are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or are breastfeeding
Dosage forms
The recommended daily dose: from age 12 to adult - 1 tablet daily. Each Berocca tablet contains 40 mg (0.04g) of sodium.
