Omnaris (ciclesonide) is a prescription nasal spray that belongs to a class of medications called corticosteroids. It works by preventing and decreasing inflammation (swelling that can cause other symptoms) in the nose. It is effective for treating sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, and nasal itching due to allergies (known medically as allergic rhinitis). This medication can be used to treat both seasonal allergies and allergies that occur all year long (known as perennial allergies).
Side effects of Omnaris
Omnaris common side effects may include:
- headache
- nosebleed
- burning or irritation in the nose
- earache
- painful white patches in nose or throat
- flu-like symptoms
- vision problems
- injury to nose
- new or increased acne (pimples)
- easy bruising
- enlarged face and neck
- extreme tiredness
- muscle weakness
- irregular menstruation (periods)
- hives
- rash
- itching
- swelling of the face, throat, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles or lower legs
- hoarseness
- difficulty breathing or swallowing
- wheezing
Indication
Omnaris is intended to treat the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. These symptoms include sneezing and stuffy, runny or itchy nose. It works by preventing and decreasing inflammation (swelling that can cause other symptoms) in the nose.
Precautions
You should inform your doctor before taking Omnaris if you have:
- Tuberculosis, herpes, or any other infections
- Not had chickenpox or the measles (and have not been vaccinated against them)
- Recently had nasal surgery
- Sores or injury to the inside of your nose
- Any allergies, including allergies to food, dyes or preservatives
- Pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
- Breastfeeding
- Taking any other medicines, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements
Dosage forms
Omnaris dose for Nasal Allergies
The recommended starting dose of Omnaris for treating nasal allergies (both seasonal and year-round) is two sprays in each nostril once a day. This dose can be used in adults and children age 6 years and up (for seasonal allergies) or age 12 years and older (for year-round allergies).
