What is Permethrin

Permethrin is a medication used to treat head lice and nits, scabies caused by insects such as mites. Permethrin belongs to the class of medicines called pyrethrins. Permethrin kills both insects and their eggs.


Side effects of Permethrin

Generallly Permethrin has no serious side effects. But anyway stop using Permethrin if you have any of the following allergic reactions:

  • shortness of breath
  • closing of your throat
  • swelling of your lips, face, tongue
  • hives
  • itching, burning or stinging
  • tingling, numbness, redness, swelling or rash


Indication

Permethrin lotion is a medication used to treat head lice infections. It works by destroying both the lice and their eggs. The Permethrin cream is used to treat scabies infections. This medication acts by paralyzing and killing the mites and their eggs.


Precautions

You should not use Permethrin if you have an allergy to chrysanthemums. Permethrin can be taken during pregnancy but according to doctor's recommendations.


Dosage forms

The recommended dose of Permethrin is 30 grams for an average adult. Permethrin cream should be put on the skin from the head to the soles of the feet. The cream should be removed by washing (shower or bath) after 8 to 14 hours. Infants should be treated on the scalp, temple and forehead. Usually only one application of permethrin is curative.
