Propecia (finasteride) is a prescription medication that effective in the treatment of male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia).
Side effects of Propecia
The most common side effects of Propecia are:
- inability to have or maintain an erection
- decreased sexual desire
- decreased volume of ejaculate (amount of semen)
- pain in the testicles
If you have noticed the following side effects, you should inform your doctor at once:
- changes in the breasts such as increased size, lumps, pain, or nipple discharge
- rash
- itching
- hives
- swelling of the lips and face
Indication
Propecia is used as a hair loss treatment for certain types of male pattern baldness. It is not recommended for women or children.
Precautions
You should inform your doctor before taking Propecia if you have:
- Liver disease or liver failure, including cirrhosis
- Any allergies, including allergies to foods, dyes or preservatives
- Are pregnant, want to bepregnant or breastfeeding
- Are taking any other prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements
Dosage forms
There is only one dose of Propecia for male pattern baldness is 1 mg once daily. You should not adjust your dose unless your doctor specifically instructs you to do so.
