What is Tao

Tao is a medication belongs to a class of drugs called macrolide antibiotics. It works by fighting bacteria in the body. Tao is beneficial in the treatment of many different types of bacterial infections such as tonsillitis, bronchitis, sinusitis and pneumonia.


Side effects of Tao

It is recommended to stop taking this medication and contact your doctor at once since you have noticed such serious side effects as:

  • an allergic (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue or face; or hives)
  • liver problems (yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue)

Less serious side effects of tao may include:

  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or abdominal pain
  • dizziness, fatigue or headache
  • vaginal yeast infection


Indication

Tao stops the growth of some bacteria. It is used to treat and prevent certain infections such as tonsillitis, bronchitis, sinusitis and pneumonia. This medicine will not work for colds, flu or other viral infections.


Precautions

It is very important to inform your doctor before taking tao if you have liver disease, because you may be unable to take it or you may require special monitoring during therapy.

You should also tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or breastfeeding, because it may be harmful for baby.


Dosage forms

Disease/condition Dose
Pneumonia Adults: 250-500 mg orally 4 times a day; Children of 1 year and older: 125-250 mg every 6 hours (When used in streptococcal infections, therapy should be continued for 10 days)
Streptococcal Infection Adults: 250-500 mg orally 4 times a day; Children of 1 year and older: 125- 250 mg every 6 hours.
Liver disease Tao is principally excreted by the liver. Caution should be used when administering the drug to patients with liver dysfunction
