Terconazole is a vaginal medication which is aimed to prevent vaginal infections. Terconazole decreases vaginal burning, itching and discharge that may occur with this condition. This medication is an azole antifungal. It acts by blocking the growth of fungus that is the reason of the infection. The medication includes the following ingredients: cream base consisting of butylated hydroxyanisole, cetyl alcohol, isopropyl myristate, polysorbate 60, polysorbate 80, propylene glycol, stearyl alcohol and purified water.
Side effects of Terazol
Terconazole can cause the following side effects:
- body pain
- burning or itching of the vagina
- painful menstruation
- stomach pain
- rash
- hives
- itching
- difficulty breathing
- tightness in the chest
- swelling of the mouth face, lips or tongue
- chills
- flu-like symptoms (headache; tiredness; muscle aches; fever)
- vaginal sensitivity or irritation
Indication
Terconazole belongs to the group of medications known as antifungals. Terconazole is used against Candida albicans infection but it is also effective against other fungi. This medication is aimed only for vaginal use.
Precautions
You should inform your doctor if you have:
- sensitization
- irritation
- fever
- chills
- flu-like symptoms
Dosage forms
The medication is available as suppository and cream. The dosage should be determined by your doctor. Keep the medicine at room temperature 15–30°C (59–86°F).
If you use suppository, place one suppository into the vagina each night at bedtime as directed by your doctor. The Terazol Suppository is self-lubricating and use it in both ways: with or without the applicator.
