What is Vanacon

Vanacon is an expectorant that includes a combination of such ingredients as guaifenesin, hydrocodone and pseudoephedrine. The combination of guaifenesin, hydrocodone and pseudoephedrine is effective in the treatment of cough and nasal congestion and to decrease chest congestion triggered by the common cold, infections or allergies.


Side effects of Vanacon

This medication can cause the following side effects:

  • fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat
  • severe dizziness, anxiety, restless feeling, or nervousness
  • easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms
  • increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure)
  • dizziness or headache
  • feeling excited or restless
  • sleep problems (insomnia)
  • nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset
  • mild loss of appetite
  • warmth, tingling, or redness under your skin
  • skin rash or itching


Indication

This medication is aimed to treat cough, chest congestion and stuffy nose symptoms triggered by the common cold, flu or other breathing illnesses (e.g., sinusitis, bronchitis). Guaifenesin is an expectorant that helps thin and loosen mucus in the lungs, making it easier to cough up the mucus. The decongestant helps relieve stuffy nose symptoms. This product also contains a narcotic cough suppressant (antitussive) that affects a certain part of the brain, decreasing the urge to cough.


Precautions

You should not take this medicine if you have the following conditions:

    asthma, COPD, sleep apnea, or other breathing disorders
  • heart disease or high blood pressure
  • diabetes
  • a thyroid disorder
  • liver or kidney disease
  • a seizure disorder
  • Addison's disease or other adrenal gland disorders
  • enlarged prostate, urination problems
  • mental illness
  • a history of drug or alcohol addiction


Dosage forms

The treatment plan should be prescribed by your doctor. The common dose is 8 ounces or 240 ml per day. It is recommended to drink full glass of water after taking in the medication. You may take it with and without food.
