What is Vasosulf

Vasosulf is a medication that contains a combination of sulfacetamide and phenylephrine ophthalmic. Sulfacetamide is an antibiotic, aimed for treating bacterial infections. Phenylephrine is a vasoconstrictor, used to make the blood vessels in your eyes smaller to decrease redness and congestion. It also helps sulfacetamide to stay in your eye for a longer period of time. Sulfacetamide and phenylephrine ophthalmic together are used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes.


Side effects of Vasosulf

Commonly, this medication does not cause serious side effects. But in some cases it can cause:

  • burning
  • stinging
  • irritation
  • itching
  • redness
  • blurred vision
  • eyelid itching
  • eyelid swelling
  • sensitivity to light


Indication

Vasosulf is effective in the treatment of the bacterial infections of the eye.


Precautions

You should not use this medication if:

  • you have a viral or fungal infection in your eye
  • you have ever had an allergic reaction to a "sulfa"-based drug
  • you are pregnant
  • you are breast-feeding a baby


Dosage forms

Vasosulf is available in form of drops, 15% solution. Sometimes you can find other forms of medication as well. It is recommended to consult the doctor concerning the treatment and dosage. Make sure you wash your hands before using Vasosulf. You should not touch the dropper to any surface, including your eyes or hands. The dropper is sterile. If it becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in your eye. It is important to keep the drops away from moisture and heat.
