Most people ignore symptoms of Lung Disease

06.12.11

According to a new review of the U.S. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Americans’ awareness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) raises, but many of those in danger don't speak with their doctors about symptoms.

Symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is the third main cause of death in the United States that include a short breath, chronic cough or wheezing, excess sputum production and the feeling of inability deeply to sigh.

COPD mentions 24 million people in the United States, but as many as half of them haven't been diagnosed.

The NHLBI Internet reviews of almost 4,200 adults found that 71 percent of respondents have told they are aware of COPD, in comparison with 65 percent in 2008.

The reviews have also shown that 27 percent of current smokers have told that have suffered from a chronic cough or wheezing, or also needed breath to make normal actions last year. That's more than double level in the population in whole (13%). However, 40 percent of smokers who said they had these COPD symptoms had not discussed them with a doctor.

«COPD surpasses other diseases as the main killer in this country. We want to reverse this tendency, telling people about symptoms, thus, they can receive the appropriate reference as soon as possible," says James Kiley, the director of Division NHLBI of Diseases of lungs. "It is not enough to hear about COPD. Those in danger should know the signs, so they can speak with a doctor about any problems with breathing they have and, hopefully, find relief," he added.

There are a lot of respiratory issues that go ignored, and causes a lot of issues for the patients. We also ignore some causes of these diseases. For instance, I read that asbestos is still being used in schools that cause so many other diseases. It's very sad.

Hey Jonathan, did you know Asbestos is a common chemical used in shingles. It used to be a cheap material to use for that. You can find authoritative and factual information on the topic of asbestos and mesothelioma. We can also offer further help to fight for compensation you deserve.
