Sub-Saharan African women who are responsible for household have a poor sexual life

According to the study led by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Sub-Saharan African women who are responsible for household have a poor sexual life. The researchers studied the relationships between married women's responsibility and the time since most recent sexual contact and found out that women's sexual activity depends on their position in the household.
The researchers studied the information from the Demographic and Health Surveys in Ghana, Malawi, Mali, Rwanda, Uganda and Zimbabwe included the day, week, month and year of their last sexual contact.
All the participants were also asked to identify the person in the household who usually had the final say on such decisions as: health care, large household purchases, household purchases for daily needs and the respondent visiting family and friends.
Most of female participants reported sexual contact within the last month. The researchers note that in Malawi and Mali husbands have the final say on more decisions. In Ghana and Rwanda women are more powerful than in other countries. Zimbabwean women make decisions together with their husbands. For men, there was no link between making decisions and the time of most recent sex.
The results of this research help to understand the frequency of sexual activity in sub-Saharan Africa and its link to household decision making.
