The best way to prevent childhood obesity is energetic physical activity

06.12.11

Some children grow faster, others- slower, so their BMI is not a definite number. BMI in children is calculated based on their weight and height taking into account their gender and age. It is listed as a percent. Children at the age of 2 and older could be obese if their BMI is at or higher than 95th percentile.

The research analyst Gutin has a new method to children obesity. According to his studies obese children consume less dietary energy than children with normal weight. The scientific community suggests that restriction of energy intake in youth may disturb the nutritional demands of growth. They concluded that physical activity is the best prevention of obesity in children.

According to new study physical activity stimulates stem cells to differentiate into bone and muscle cells than to fat cells. The scientists understood that BMI cannot indicate the level of obesity in children until "the weight" will be calculated. BMI includes both fat mass and fat-free mass.

The scientists conclude that we will prevent obesity in children if we make them to be more physically active. They can be engaged in dance, athletics, strength training, walking, swimming, etc.
