Yoga can help people with Type 2 Diabetes

Researchers assume that gentle classes of yoga can help people with Type 2 diabetes to remove a small amount of weight and to stabilize their blood sugar control.
The study involved 123 middle-aged and older people have found that those who have added yoga classes to standard treatment of diabetes lose a handful of pounds more than three months. Meanwhile their average blood sugar levels considered steady in contrast to the non-yoga-practicing "control" group, whose blood sugar levels rose. According to the results, reported in the journal Diabetes Care, they do not suggest, that yoga should replace other forms of exercise for people with Type 2 diabetes a disease usually connected with obesity.
Among the 60 participants of the research who took yoga lessons several times week, the average BMI - a measure of weight in relation to height reduced from 25.9 to 25.4. BMI between 25 and 30 is considered overweight.
It is important to note that yoga controls the blood sugar levels which otherwise rose in the control group.
All of us know that yoga classes vary widely. Some are vigorous work-outs involving difficult poses that would not be approaching for older people with chronic medical conditions.
Older people with diabetes can look for yoga classes specially designed for older people and those with chronic medical conditions. In the U.S., hospitals and local community centers are more and more offer such classes.
