24,000 deaths from diabetes in the UK can be prevented

According to the report into death rates, from the National Diabetes Audit for England, deaths from diabetes in the UK could reduce on 24,000 if patients and doctors controlled the condition in a better way.
The report showed that regular health checkups, a good diet and medication could prevent a lot of the deaths.
Approximately 70,000-75,000 people die from diabetes in England every year that accounts for about 15% of all deaths.
Dr. Bob Young, consultant diabetologist and clinical leader for the National Diabetes Information Service, explained:
"Today we have a reliable measure of the huge impact of diabetes on early death. Most of these early deaths could be prevented. The number of new diabetes is increasing every year. So, if there are no changes, the impact of diabetes on national mortality will increase. Doctors, nurses and the NHS collaborated with people suffering from diabetes should be able to improve these dramatic statistics."
