Possible Health Benefits of Lingonberries

11.01.12

According to a new study, lingoberries are effective in the protection of blood vessels of BP and diabetic patients.

Dr. Peter Bongiorno of Innersource Health stated that it does not lower the blood pressure, but it stops the damage.

Ligonberries grow on low, evergreen shrubs throughout the forests of Scandinavia. Unlike cranberry, these tart, red berries are much smaller and juicier.

Bongiorno said:

"Lingonberries consist of very high levels of certain phytochemicals which are the best antioxidants. These chemicals protect lingoberries against the sun's radiation so the same way, it protects our bodies and protects us from excessive oxidation when we take them in."

Antioxidants play an important role in prevention of such diseases as cancer, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's and macular degeneration.

Bongiorno supposes that lingonberries would soon be available in juices, powders and in the frozen food section of local grocery store.
