Rose hip is beneficial in heart disease treatment

Researchers found out that a daily dose of rose hip extract reduces risk of heart disease by lowering cholesterol and blood pressure levels.
They studied overweight people who consumed a drink made of rose hip powder every day for just 6 weeks. As a result, their blood pressure and cholesterol levels significantly reduced.
The tiny berries which sprout at the end of the rose-blooming season have been used for centuries as a natural remedy for arthritis treatment. They contain vitamin C and have powerful anti-inflammatory properties.
Scientists at Lund University in Sweden examined 31 obese men and women to know if a daily drink made of rose hip powder would decrease their risks of developing type two diabetes and heart disease.
All patients were drinking the rose hip solution within 6 weeks, made of 40 grammes of rose hip powder, followed by 6 weeks on a drink made from apples and grapes.
After the experiment, patients saw their blood pressure drop an average of 3.4%, a small but significant decline and their total cholesterol levels drop by almost 5%. Further tests revealed a bigger drop - 6% - in levels of LDL cholesterol, the 'bad' type of blood fat thought to heighten heart disease risks.
The researchers stated that the drop in cholesterol and blood pressure would be effective in heart disease treatment among overweight patients by 17%.
They also said that if the cardiovascular benefits of the garden berry will be confirmed, it could be used as an alternative therapy for people who are unable to take the anti-cholesterol drugs statins due to side effects.
