A new study showed that toddlers are able to recognize language mistakes at age of 4

Researchers from the Technical University of Denmark stated that parents should correct their toddlers’ mistakes when pronouncing a word, because they are not able to realize their mistake in pronunciation until the age of 4.
The researchers studied adults, 2 year olds and 4 year olds by causing them listen to a recording of themselves saying “bad” even when they were saying “bed”.
While the adults and the four-year-olds tried to correct their mistake by pronouncing it similar to “bid”, the two-year-olds continued to stick to their original pronunciation.
The researchers suggested that the toddlers were not able to recognize any mistakes that they make in pronouncing and it depends on adults to correct their mistakes. The study showed that unlike two-year-olds, four-year-olds monitor their own speech in the same way as adults.
